FIRST READING: Numbers 6:22-27
The Priestly Blessing
22 The Lord said to
Moses, 23 “Tell Aaron and his sons,
‘This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:
24 “‘“The Lord bless you
and keep you;
25 the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’
and keep you;
25 the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
26 the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.”’
27 “So they will
put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.”
PSALM: Psalm 67:2-3, 5-6, 8
2 Let God arise, and
let his enemies be scattered: and let them that hate him flee from before his
face.
3 As smoke vanisheth,
so let them vanish away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked
perish at the presence of God.
5 Sing ye to God, sing
a psalm to his name, make a way for him who ascendeth upon the west: the Lord
is his name. Rejoice ye before him: but the wicked shall be troubled at his
presence,
6 Who is the father of
orphans, and the judge of widows. God in his holy place:
8 O God, when thou
didst go forth in the sight of thy people, when thou didst pass through the
desert:
SECOND READING: Galatians 4:4-7
4 But when the fulness
of the time was come, God sent his Son, made of a woman, made under the law:
5 That he might redeem
them who were under the law: that we might receive the adoption of sons.
6 And because you are
sons, God hath sent the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying: Abba,
Father.
7 Therefore now he is
not a servant, but a son. And if a son, an heir also through God.
GOSPEL: Luke 2:16-21
16 And they came with
haste; and they found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manger.
17 And seeing, they
understood of the word that had been spoken to them concerning this child.
18 And all that heard,
wondered; and at those things that were told them by the shepherds.
19 But Mary kept all
these words, pondering them in her heart.
20 And the shepherds
returned, glorifying and praising God, for all the things they had heard and
seen, as it was told unto them.
21 And after eight days
were accomplished, that the child should be circumcised, his name was called
JESUS, which was called by the angel, before he was conceived in the womb.
O Holy Mary! My Mother; into thy blessed trust and special custody, and
into the bosom of thy mercy, I this day, and every day, and in the hour of my
death, commend my soul and body. To thee I commit all my anxieties and sorrows,
my life and the end of my life, that by thy most holy intercession, and by thy
merits, all my actions may be directed and governed by thy will and that of thy
Son.
