The Call of Abram
12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from
your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show
you.
2 “I will make
you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”

SECOND READING: A Reading from the Pastoral Letter to
Timothy (2 Timothy 1:8-10)
8 So do not be ashamed of the testimony
about our Lord or of me his prisoner. Rather, join with me in suffering for the
gospel, by the power of God. 9 He has
saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but
because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus
before the beginning of time, 10 but it
has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who
has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the
gospel.

The Transfiguration
17 After six days Jesus took with
him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain
by themselves.
2 There he was transfigured before them. His
face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light. 3 Just then there appeared before them Moses and
Elijah, talking with Jesus.
4 Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good
for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters—one for you, one
for Moses and one for Elijah.”
5 While he was still speaking, a bright
cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I
love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!”
6 When the disciples heard this, they fell
facedown to the ground, terrified. 7 But
Jesus came and touched them. “Get up,” he said. “Don’t be afraid.” 8 When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.
9 As they were coming down the mountain,
Jesus instructed them, “Don’t tell anyone what you have
seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
Avoid evil practices; indeed, preach against them. Hear your bishop,
that God may hear you. Work together in harmony,: struggle together, run
together, suffer together, rest together, rise together, as stewards, advisors
and servants of God. So be patient and gentle with one another, as God is with
you.
