FIRST READING: A Reading from the Book of Isaiah (Isaiah
49:3, 5-6)
3 He said to me,
“You are my servant,
Israel, in whom I will display my splendor.”

he who formed me in the womb to be his servant
to bring Jacob back to him
and gather Israel to himself,
for I am honored in the eyes of the Lord
and my God has been my strength—
6 he says:
“It is too small a thing for you to be my servant
to restore the tribes of Jacob
and bring back those of Israel I have kept.
I will also make you a light for the Gentiles,
that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.”

Corinthians 1:1-3)
1 Paul, called to be an apostle of
Christ Jesus by the will of God, and our brother Sosthenes,

of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and called to be his
holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our
Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and ours:

GOSPEL: A Reading from the Holy Gospel According to John (John
1:29-34)
John Testifies About Jesus
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming
toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the
world! 30 This is the one I meant when
I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’
31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I
came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”
32 Then John gave this testimony: “I saw
the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. 33 And I myself did not know him, but the one who
sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come
down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 I have seen and I testify that this is God’s
Chosen One.”
God, the Creator of all things, is so full of mercy and compassion that
whatever may be the grace for which we stretch out our hands, we shall not fail
to receive it.
