down fire. 4 Elijah, your miracles were marvelous! No one else can boast of such deeds! 9 You were taken up to heaven in a fiery whirlwind, a chariot drawn by fiery horses. 10 The scripture says that you are ready to appear at the designated time, to cool God's anger before it breaks out in fury; that you
will
bring parents and children together again, and restore the tribes of Israel. 11 Fortunate
are those who live to see you come, as well as those who have already died in
love, for we too shall live.
Psalm 80:2-3, 15-16, 18-19
2 before Ephraim,
Benjamin and Manasseh.
Awaken your might;
come and save us.
Awaken your might;
come and save us.
3 Restore us, O
God;
make your face shine on us,
that we may be saved.
make your face shine on us,
that we may be saved.
15 the root your
right hand has planted,
the son you have raised up for yourself.
the son you have raised up for yourself.
16 Your vine is
cut down, it is burned with fire;
at your rebuke your people perish.
18 Then we will not turn away from you;
revive us, and we will call on your name.
at your rebuke your people perish.
18 Then we will not turn away from you;
revive us, and we will call on your name.
19 Restore us, Lord God Almighty;
make your face shine on us,
that we may be saved.
make your face shine on us,
that we may be saved.

10 The disciples asked him, “Why then do
the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?”
11 Jesus replied, “To
be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things. 12 But
I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have
done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to
suffer at their hands.” 13 Then the
disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.
