The Incarnation of the Word of Life
1 That which was from the
beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have
looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of
life. 2 The life appeared; we have seen it and testify to
it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has
appeared to us. 3 We proclaim to you
what
we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And
our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We write this to make our joy complete.
Psalm 97:1-2, 5-6, 11-12
1 The Lord reigns, let the earth be glad;
let the distant shores rejoice.
2 Clouds and thick darkness surround him;
righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
5 The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
before the Lord of all the earth.
6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness,
and all peoples see his glory.
let the distant shores rejoice.
2 Clouds and thick darkness surround him;
righteousness and justice are the foundation of his throne.
5 The mountains melt like wax before the Lord,
before the Lord of all the earth.
6 The heavens proclaim his righteousness,
and all peoples see his glory.
11 Light shines on
the righteous
and joy on the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous,
and praise his holy name.
and joy on the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice in the Lord, you who are righteous,
and praise his holy name.
John 20:1-8
The Empty Tomb
20 Early on the first
day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and
saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2 So she
came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and
said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they
have put him!”
3 So Peter and the other
disciple started for the tomb. 4 Both were running, but the
other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. 5 He
bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. 6 Then
Simon Peter came along behind him and went straight into the tomb. He saw the
strips of linen lying there, 7 as well as the cloth that had
been wrapped around Jesus’ head. The cloth was still lying in its place,
separate from the linen. 8 Finally the other disciple, who had
reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed.
